Mission and Philosophy

My mission is to empower you to learn and understand ways that you can channel your energy to increase self-awareness, happiness, and productivity. Through evidence-based practices and a strength-based, compassionate approach, you will develop tools for the future that will help you make real and lasting change.

Therapy is not a “one size fits all” approach. Your story is unique and requires attention to the details that are important to you.  Together, we will create goals that allow YOU to be in the driver’s seat. Topics and priorities for your sessions will be guided by you and what your goals are for treatment. My job in our work together is to assist you in learning more about yourself and feel as comfortable as possible during sessions, be it in the office or by Telehealth.

Getting started is the first step to getting unstuck!!!

What it’s like to work with Rachel?

Ease your mind about some of the burning questions you have about the therapy process.

  • After you book an initial consultation with Rachel, you will receive a PHONE CALL at the number you specified on the time and date you agreed upon.

The initial consultation call consists of letting the therapist know your presenting concerns and reasons for seeking therapy at this time, discussing logistics of visits including availability, location and format for visits (virtual or in-office), and payment options. The therapist will answer any questions you still have, and if it’s a mutually good fit, scheduling your first appointment during the call.

  • During your first session, Rachel will discuss a few more logistics and legal/ethical items, and answer any questions you may have prior to diving in.

After that, this session will consist of getting to know each other and helping Rachel understand your support system, how you spend. your days, hobbies and interests, pet peeves, and reasons for being here today. She may also ask you about previous therapy experiences and to describe what has been helpful in the past.

  • During your initial visit, Rachel will explain a few legal things at the very beginning, and then will answer any questions you have, and spend the rest of the session getting to know you. Tell her about your family, who lives at home with you, your strengths, hobbies, likes and dislikes. This part of the therapeutic relationship is PARAMOUNT for good work moving forward.

  • Together, we track improvements in areas like organization, time management, follow-through, emotional regulation, and overall stress levels. We also look at how strategies are working in real-life situations—school, work, and home—so we can adjust tools and supports as needed. The goal is steady, practical progress that helps you feel more capable, confident, and in control of your day-to-day life.

When I'm not in the therapist chair...

…you can find me being a wife and mom to my human child and my dog child. I also love spending time with my family (I have a big one so this happens often) and friends, laughing until my gut hurts, traveling, trips to Target, (delete extra space here) and baking. I was born and raised in St. Louis, but I’m not telling you where I went to high school. I am the third generation in my family to be born and raised here, and I love most things about it: the Cardinals, Italian food, Mr. Wizard’s Frozen Custard, and yes, even the weather.

After college, I moved across the world because I felt adrift and directionless. While living abroad and continuing my graduate studies at WashU, I discovered my passion for helping others. This is truly my dream job and I am grateful to do this work everyday.

I received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Denver and completed my Master of Social Work degree at Washington University in St. Louis in 2011. I have worked in a variety of treatment settings across the St. Louis area including leading teen groups at an intensive outpatient treatment facility and doing community-based and in-home family therapy with clients in crisis.
